Picture this:
It’s Monday morning in Auckland. You cruise down a road that’s had a recent upgrade, grab a coffee from your local, and watch kids heading to school.
Your feed’s buzzing with talk about the city’s future, new projects, growing neighbourhoods, big ideas taking shape. And it’s a reminder that these decisions don’t just happen. They’re shaped by people like you.
Auckland is growing, evolving and investing in the things that keep the city moving, from transport and infrastructure to community spaces and climate action.
While none of us jump for joy at the word “rates,” we all want a city that works. We want value for money and investments that matter for our communities.
The real challenge is making smart choices: without pushing rate rises any higher than they need to go, while still delivering what Aucklanders need now and into the future.
That’s where you come in.
This year’s Annual Plan is your chance to help give feedback on the priorities for 2026/2027 and also asks you to rank what is most important to you, long-term.
When you have your say, you’re helping make sure every dollar is focused on what matters most to your community. Because the best way to keep rates in check is to make sure we are invested to deliver value for what matters to you - not guesswork.
So, what big calls are up for discussion?
Here’s six decisions on the table and why you should care:
1. Better roads and more public transport?
Do you dream of smooth rides or a safer cycle to work? Your input could tip the balance. Do you want to see transport be easier, safer and more sustainable?
2. Local parks, libraries and sports fields
Should we splash out on new play equipment for the kids or add more green spaces for picnics and dog walks? Love a real book and a quiet corner or want more tech, Wi-Fi and learning spaces? Pick your happy place – parks, sports, libraries…
3. Support the environment
Lower Nihotupu, Lower Huia, Whatipu.
Would you like to see Auckland’s natural areas, streams, coastal zones and cultural heritage prioritised further? Regional park investment and reduced waste?
4. Events and festivals that support our economy
More local fun days or big cultural experiences that bring the city to life? Let’s grow Auckland’s economy and supporting events, tourism and creative industries. Tell us what makes your weekends unforgettable and worth leaving the house for.
5. Plan for a bigger Auckland
Want to see Auckland grow in a coordinated way? Rebuilding urban centres, better infrastructure and coordinated development that makes day-to-day living enjoyable and future-proofed?
6. Flood resilience
Like to see flood risks reduced through investment that helps upgrade stormwater systems and protect waterways and our communities?
Why it’s worth your two cents
This isn’t just a survey, it’s how your rates are spent. Every piece of feedback helps shape the services, spaces and projects Auckland invests in to deliver value for rates and what your community looks like tomorrow.
