Get ready to hit the courts and ride the new flow bowl. Muriwai Village Green is about to be transformed with exciting new facilities for locals of all ages.

Construction kicks off on site from 15 April 2026 and is expected to take about six months, depending on the weather.

Rodney Local Board Chair Guy Wishart says play is such an important part of life, and the village green has always been at the heart of the community.

“This upgrade will give people even more fun and things to do when they come here together. They can be learning to ride, playing sport, or just spending time with family and friends.”

The redevelopment includes two tennis courts and a purpose-built wheel play area with a flow bowl and plaza-style features for riders of all skill levels - from beginners to pros.

Stage two will add a 3-on-3 basketball court, plus new line markings, nets, hoops, and fencing.

The project comes as the existing facilities have aged and needed replacing. Once finished, the village green will be more flexible, fun and welcoming for everyone.

Local input shaped the design, with 132 submissions received and 92.4 per cent supporting the plans. Feedback helped expand the wheel play areas, refine the courts, and add more shade trees for picnics and play.

The $934,000 project will create a modern, safe and fun new space for local families and visitors alike.

Wishart says, "The countdown to play is on.”
