Auckland’s Frequent Transit Network is made up of bus routes that run often, all day, on key corridors across the city. These services form the backbone of the public transport network, helping more people move easily and reliably without needing to check timetables. To date we have 45 of these frequent services in Auckland.
What makes a route ‘frequent’?
Frequent routes meet our ‘frequent promise’ with each route running at least every 15 minutes, from 7am to 7pm, 7 days a week. These routes all run before 7am and after 7pm but may not be every 15 minutes at these earlier and later times.
Because services run often, you can turn up and go, making them especially useful for commuting, errands, school, appointments and spontaneous trips.
| Tip: Frequent routes only have two digits in their route number or a name e.g. Northern Express, or CityLink. |
Where you’ll find the Frequent Transit Network
These frequent routes operate on key corridors across Auckland, connecting major town centres, transport hubs, workplaces and education centres. They are designed to work alongside trains, ferries and local bus services to support easy transfers and smoother journeys.
These routes are marked clearly on our route maps and in the AT Mobile app, making them easy to identify when planning a trip.
Why the Frequent Transit Network is useful right now
With fuel prices increasing, the Frequent Transit Network offers a practical alternative to driving. These routes run often, all day, supporting you to:
- Travel more flexibly, without needing to plan around timetables
- Rely on consistent, frequent services for daily trips
- Choose public transport more often and reduce fuel costs
- Make transfers more easily
- Get around Auckland with easy connections between services
During phase 1 of the national fuel supply response, these frequent services continue to operate as normal, supporting everyday travel across the city.
Easy to use - even if you’re new to public transport
Because frequent routes are predictable and cover Auckland's main destinations, they’re often a great place to start if you’re new to public transport or returning after a break.
A network designed to keep Auckland moving
The Frequent Transit Network plays a key role in keeping Auckland moving every day. By concentrating frequent services on the busiest routes, these frequent routes help reduce congestion, supports access to key destinations, and gives people more choice in how they travel.
Whether you’re commuting, running errands or seeing friends, the Frequent Transit Network offers a simple, reliable way to get where you need to go.
