Raewyn Reserve playground in Pakūranga has been given a new lease on life, transforming into a safe, welcoming space for local families to enjoy.
What was once a tired and overlooked play area is now a refreshed community spot designed for everyday use.
Located at 33R Edgewater Drive, the playground sits within Raewyn Place Esplanade Reserve - one of more than 70 playgrounds across the Howick area. The recent upgrade, funded by the Howick Local Board, reflects a clear focus on improving the quality and usability of neighbourhood spaces where people live.
Board chair Bruce Kendall shares, “It’s great to see Raewyn Reserve brought back to life for the community. Quality parks and playgrounds are an important part of everyday life, and this upgrade ensures local whānau have a safe, enjoyable space right in their neighbourhood.”
The completed works include:
- improved drainage
- a new central pathway
- and two new seats with backs for parents and caregivers
- old equipment has been replaced with safer, modern play features designed to reflect a more natural environment.
Together, these changes make the space more accessible, comfortable, and resilient for year-round use. The upgraded park is now more sustainable, with native plants, water-saving landscaping, and eco-friendly materials working together to support local wildlife and reduce environmental impact - creating a greener space for everyone to enjoy.
With an investment of $80,796, the upgrade delivers practical improvements that support how the community uses the space, whether it’s for daily play, meeting neighbours, or spending time outdoors with whānau / family.
The Howick Local Board continues to manage and invest in a wide network of local parks, playgrounds, and reserves. Upgrades like Raewyn Reserve are part of a broader commitment to maintaining quality public spaces that support wellbeing, connection, and active lifestyles.
