Five ways your voices have helped shape our plans for Rodney

Rodney is growing fast, and local investment is focused on the things that matter most to communities.

Our local board plans are the starting point for that investment based on community feedback.

“Our focus is on making everyday life better,” says Rodney Local Board Chair Guy Wishart. “That means better parks, safer roads, reliable public transport, more opportunities for young people, and caring for the environment.”

From parks and transport to community programmes and conservation, here are five ways local board plans have helped connect people, support active lifestyles and make Rodney a great place to live.

Game on at Centennial Park

Wellsford is back in play with a major upgrade to the Centennial Park courts.

The $2 million project rebuilt the upper courts with new surfaces, drainage, fencing, lighting and clear markings, as well as wheelchair access and new paths to the courts.

Reopened in May after nine months of work, the courts are already making a difference for local players, with the final court due for completion over summer.

Riverhead’s hub for play and recreation

Riverhead War Memorial Park is buzzing following major upgrades delivered over several years.

There’s a large playground, a popular new skatepark, upgraded tennis and basketball courts, better car parking and pedestrian access to the park. With sportsfields and space to relax, it’s become a go-to spot for families and young people.

Making commuting easier in Warkworth

The Warkworth Community Transport Hub makes commuting simpler. Funded by the Transport Targeted Rate, it gives commuters a central place to park and catch the bus.

The $3.7 million facility includes 137 parks, bike parking, bus stops, a layover area, footpaths, a pedestrian crossing, toilets, lighting and CCTV. Having dedicated parking for commuters frees up town centre spaces for shoppers and businesses.

Connecting Rodney communities

Across Rodney, local initiatives are helping people meet, connect and feel at home where they live.

From Community Conversations in Snells Beach to Matariki events, and Soup Chats in Helensville, these local programmes bring people together. She Connects groups and family events like Huapai Family Fun Day are also creating spaces to meet, share and have fun.

Looking after Rodney’s environment

Locals are playing a big role in protecting Rodney’s environment, with support from the local board.

Volunteers, schools and landowners are working together on projects across the region, from beach care to conservation work.

Restore Rodney East, along with the coordinators in west and central Rodney, support volunteers deliver environmental projects, planting and pest control initiatives that help protect native wildlife and keep the environment healthy.
