Whether you've cheered on the Warriors at Go Media Stadium, marvelled at a Galápagos tortoise at Auckland Zoo or watched the night sky come alive during Diwali, you've experienced some of the events and attractions your rates help make possible.

These experiences do more than create great days out. They celebrate what makes Tāmaki Makaurau unique, bring communities together, attract visitors and support a thriving local economy.

Celebrating culture and connection

Home to more than 180 ethnicities, Tāmaki Makaurau is New Zealand's most diverse city. That diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and your rates help support festivals, events and cultural experiences that reflect the many cultures that call Auckland home.

From iconic celebrations such as Pasifika, Diwali and the Lantern Festival to year-round community events, these experiences help build connected communities and attract thousands of visitors to the region.

Your rates also help support some of Auckland's best-loved attractions, including Auckland Zoo, Auckland Art Gallery and the New Zealand Maritime Museum.

Supporting a thriving economy

Auckland has so much to offer, and we want the world to know about it.

Your rates help support initiatives that promote Auckland as a great place to visit, live, study and do business. This includes attracting major concerts, sporting events, musicals and exhibitions that bring visitors to the region while supporting local businesses and jobs.

Council also invests in initiatives that strengthen Auckland's economy and create opportunities for people and businesses.

This year, we'll:

  • work with central government on long-term funding for destination marketing and major events
  • deliver the second Auckland Startup Week, showcasing high-growth technology and innovation businesses
  • support Māori and Pacific businesses through the Amotai business connection programme
  • develop a new Economic Development Strategy to help guide Auckland's future growth.

Investing for the future

This year, council will continue developing a Stadium Network Investment Plan to help guide investment across Auckland's stadium network, ensuring these venues continue to meet the needs of communities and major events.

We're also improving how we invest in arts, culture and economic development so funding delivers the greatest benefit for Aucklanders. This includes building a clearer picture of arts and culture investment across the region to help shape future priorities.

By supporting events, cultural experiences and economic development, your rates help us create opportunities for communities, businesses and future generations.
