The doors to the much-loved Titirangi Community Library reopen to the public today, with weather-tightness and seismic-strengthening works giving the community a safer, more resilient and sustainable place to read, learn and connect.
The refurbished library has been freshly repainted, and is now equipped with new furniture, and new carpet in the children's area. The foyer has also been refreshed with new flooring, ceiling and lighting, alongside timber and joinery works.
Waitākere Ranges Local Board chair Mark Allen says reopening the library is a significant milestone for the community.
“We know how much this library means to people. It's one of Titirangi's most valued community spaces, and we're delighted to welcome residents back through its doors.
“The refurbishment protects this important public asset and ensures it can continue serving the community for many years to come.”

The refurbishment is part of a wider project to restore the Titirangi War Memorial Hall complex and addresses long-standing weather-tightness issues while improving the building's seismic resilience and environmental performance.
With an investment of $3.4 million from Waitākere Ranges Local Board, the project also included a full replacement of the roof and exterior cladding, repairs and replacement of joinery, upgrades to the stormwater drainage system, installation of seismic bracing and the addition of solar panels.
The seismic strengthening will also ensure the facility meets legislative requirements for any potential future use as a Civil Defence Centre.
With the library reopening, the eight parking spaces previously occupied by the mobile library, along with two contractor parking spaces, are once again available for public use.
Work on the remainder of the Titirangi War Memorial Hall is continuing, with the hall and remaining areas expected to reopen later in 2026. During construction, more rot was uncovered than originally anticipated, requiring additional repairs and extending the construction programme.
