Papakura Local Board has asked Auckland Transport to look at options for moving bus parks away from their current locations around Central Park.

At present, buses are parked near Central Park between runs, making it difficult for people using nearby services—such as the Citizens Advice Bureau—to find convenient car-parking.

Local board deputy chair Felicity Auva’a says the buses have been a problem for some time.

"We have to come up with a better workable long-term solution for an area that is already under parking pressure, with commuters taking up all the available roadside parking,” she says.

"There’s no point just moving the layover site a block this way or that because it only lands the problem on a new set of residents.”

The board has asked AT to carry out a feasibility study of different potential bus parking locations, which see them moving to an area between Great South Road and Settlement Road, previously the site of a bus terminal.
