Papakura Local Board has asked Auckland Transport for an update on plans affecting Takanini’s Great South Road bus lanes.

The Connected Communities plan aims to achieve improved bus priority lanes across Auckland, including on Great South Road, where the board last year announced its preference for a T2-3 lane, for the cycle lane to go, and for parking restrictions to be in place only during peak hours.

The plan won’t be available for the board to comment on until after this year’s local body elections.

"We have been advocating on behalf of the community for five years on this issue, and we are hoping our recommendations will be included," board member Katrina Winn says.

Board chair Brent Catchpole says the board’s position was reached after widespread discussions with the community. "Our community made it clear where it stands on this topic, and we are looking forward to progress being made."

Auckland Transport has been asked to brief the board on the topic.
