Auckland Transport has been praised by Papakura Local Board for moving quickly on work needed around using land near the Settlement Road and Great South Road cemetery site as a new bus layover.

The board has been working with AT on options for moving bus parks away from their current locations around Central Park.

At present, buses are parked near Central Park between runs, making it difficult for people using nearby services.

Members of the Citizens Advice Bureau have frequently complained to the board that those needing its services cannot find parking.

The buses have been moved several times, but each move has caused new complaints from people who then become affected.

The board began working with AT to come up with a workable long-term solution that did not merely move the problem from one area to another.

AT was also the victim of its own success, with parking anywhere near the railway station in demand from commuters, adding to the pressure in local streets.

The area in question was previously the site of a bus terminal.
