Old Avondale is a display of 10 photographic collages featuring shops, people, buildings and scenes in Avondale. The images are from Auckland Libraries’ Kura Heritage Collections Online and were created and curated by Nia Vavao. Originally, they were displayed in an outdoor exhibition space on Great North Road in Avondale in November 2023.
Nia Vavao says “Old Avondale takes us back in time. Using heritage images from Kura Heritage Collections Online, these collaged pieces were put together to display Avondale in a past light and to hopefully spark up discussions and memories for our Pacific community who chose to raise their families here and why.
