Step into the heart of Tāmaki Makaurau’s waterfront & experience the power of waiata, the heartbeat of Māori storytelling, history & connection.
Set against the stunning backdrop of the Waitematā Harbour, Wednesday Waiata drop-in holiday sessions invite you to immerse yourself in the Ngāti Whātua anthem He aha te hau, a song that carries the winds of change, resilience & prophecy.

Under the guidance of Te Wharekura kaimanaaki Prince, this intimate & welcoming session will help you understand the words, actions & deeper significance of this treasured waiata. More than just a song, it speaks of the north wind, carrying messages, decisions & new beginnings, reflecting the pivotal moment when Ngāti Whātua invited Governor Hobson to establish Auckland on their whenua.

Whether you sing along, absorb the kōrero, or simply enjoy the beauty of the moment, you’ll be engaging in something much greater - an exchange of culture, history & mana.

Te Wharekura, a 108-year-old heritage kiosk, has been transformed into a cultural & marine education space, where the past meets the present. While you’re here, take time to explore its interactive touchscreens, stunning artworks & kōrero.

Join us in lifting our voices to the wind. Nau mai, haere mai!
