Immerse yourself in the vibrant traditions of Malaysia through an interactive cultural experience. The event begins with a showcase of Malaysian heritage, featuring a traditional dance performance accompanied by the rhythmic beats of the kompang.
Between 2pm and 4pm, participants can enjoy a hands-on batik painting workshop, where they will learn the basics of Malaysia’s iconic art form and create their own colourful design to take home.
Adding a fun and engaging twist, there will be two rounds of a trivia quiz to test your knowledge of Malaysia — with exciting prizes to be won.
To complete the cultural journey, visitors are invited to try traditional Malaysian games, such as congkak, a classic wooden strategy board game, and batu seremban, a lively hand–eye coordination game enjoyed across generations.
A delicious highlight awaits on the concourse, where a food stall will be selling famous Malaysian dish nasi lemak, along with popular desserts curry puffs and seri muka. The stall will operate from 12pm to 4pm, or until sold out, offering an authentic taste of Malaysia throughout the afternoon.
This family-friendly event celebrates culture, creativity, and connection, welcoming people of all ages to experience the colours, rhythms, and playful traditions that make Malaysia unique.
This event is proudly brought to you in partnership with Central City Library and the Auckland Malaysian Liaison Bureau at the University of Auckland.
