To mark the centenary of Gottfried Lindauer’s passing on Saturday 13 June, the Gallery will be hosting two very special talks with relatives of Lindauer himself and sitter Paora Tūhaere.

Held in the beautiful Lower Grey Gallery underneath Ngā Taonga Tūturu, which features Lindauer’s paintings, these free talks are not to be missed.

All are welcome but arrive early to avoid disappointment.

More about the talks:

  • 1pm: Nathan Pōhio, Kairauhī Matua, Toi Māori | Senior Curator, Māori Art and Ngarimu Blair, a member of Paora Tūhaere’s whānau, will discuss one of the portraits of Tūhaere, along with the place of portraiture in tikanga Māori and our exhibition Ngā Taonga Tūturu.

  • 2pm: Jane Davidson-Ladd, Curator of Historical New Zealand Art, is in conversation with Michael Grant, the great-grandson of Lindauer, to further explore Lindauer’s life and legacy.

Ā te Hātarei 13 o Hune, hei whakamahara i te rautau o te matenga o Gottfried Lindauer, kua whakaritehia e Toi o Tāmaki e rua ngā kauhau me ētahi o ngā uri o Lindauer rāua ko Paora Tūhaere, tētahi o ngā tauira.
