This two-day workshop will introduce you to the traditional art practice of siapo-making as a living practice.
Through talanoa, we will explore the history of siapo in Sāmoa, its cultural significance and the ways it continues to be reimagined today.
You will engage in hands-on making, including:
- bark preparation
- beating techniques
- working with natural pigments and materials to create your own piece.
This workshop will also explore themes of cultural preservation, reclamation, cultural responsibility and self-reflection.
