Family Fun

Join us for the exciting sessions that combine Storytime, Rhymetime, and Wriggle and Rhyme. Perfect for families who can't make our regular weekday sessions or just want to squeeze in a little more fun!

Matariki Cards

Get creative as you weave bright paper strips to make your own Matariki-inspired card. Mix and match colours, practice simple weaving techniques and take home a beautiful handmade creation to share.

Badge Making

Which Matariki star do you connect with most? Choose your favourite star and wear it proudly as a badge! Channel your inner artist as you colour your own Matariki badge design, then use our badge machine to bring your creation to life.

Sandwich Kebabs

Turn ordinary sandwich ingredients into a fun Matariki-inspired snack. Use star-shaped cutters to stack and build your own delicious sandwich kebabs. Discover how simple ingredients can become something extra fun to make and of course eat! Spaces are limited, so book your spot now!

Robogals - Elastic Catapult

Matariki Escape Room

Oh no! The stars of Matariki have been locked away! To free them, you’ll need to complete a series of challenges honouring each star. Every activity reveals part of a secret code needed to restore the Māori New Year. Do you have what it takes? Suitable for ages 7+.

Tukutuku Panels

Tukutuku patterns are rich in meaning and tradition, with designs and stories varying between iwi across Aotearoa. Inspired by traditional weaving forms passed down through generations, these patterns reflect Māori creativity, identity and storytelling. Join us and show your creativity!

Woven Stars 

  • Saturday 11 July, 2.30pm - 3.30pm
  • Sunday 12 July, 10am - 11am 

Unleash your creativity with this fun weaving project. You will weave bright yarn through black paper star templates to create your own sparkling Matariki star, then decorate with colourful gems to make it sparkle!

The Re-creators 

  • Tuesday 14 July, 2.30pm - 3.30pm

Step back into the 70s and discover the retro craft making a comeback - string art! Get creative with painting, hammering and weaving as you design your own colourful masterpiece. This hands-on activity is also a great way to practice basic hammer skills while creating something fun to take home. Spaces are limited, so book your spot now!

Stories under the stars 

  • Thursday 16 July, 5.30pm - 6.30pm

Bring your warm jackets and PJs and join us for a special Storytime Under the Stars. Cuddle up with your buddies, besties and whānau as you enjoy songs and stories together. You’ll also get the chance to explore the Matariki constellation on our iPads and warm up afterwards with a delicious hot chocolate in the library!

Wriggle and Rhyme

Join us for a Wriggle and Rhyme session that gets babies (2 years and under) moving and grooving. It’s all about active movement and boosting brain development in the most exciting way!

Keychains 

  • Saturday 18 July, 2.30pm - 3.30pm
  • Sunday 19 July, 10am - 11am 

Decorate a star shaped keychain, then personalise it with colourful beads to make it sparkle and easy to spot on your bag or keys. These luminous keyrings are simple, fun and perfect to take home!
