Back to Work: Auckland Mayor and Deputy Return to Office Following Election Win

Publish Date : 14 Oct 2025

Mayor Wayne Brown and Deputy Mayor Desley Simpson have returned to Auckland Council this week ready to hit the ground running.

“I am thrilled and humbled that Aucklanders have given me their vote of confidence to return to the job. It tells me they have confidence in what I’m doing and gives us the opportunity to finish the job.

While we made lots of progress last term, there’s plenty more to do and I don’t want to waste any time. I’m here to bring results for Auckland and that starts today,” said Mayor Brown.

Deputy Mayor Desley Simpson adds that she’s looking forward to supporting the mayor and delivering for Aucklanders in this term.

"The weekend was a good opportunity to once again reflect on what has been a really successful term under Mayor Brown. Now it’s time to return to work and set up a council structure that is ready to deliver for our city.”

During the next couple of weeks, the Mayor will meet with new and returning councillors to discuss their priorities, leadership opportunities and the structure for council committees. Appointments and the final committee structure will be confirmed as soon as possible.

At the same time, the Mayoral Office will be stood up to support the Mayor for this term.
