Auckland Council looks after more than 900 playgrounds, many of which are new or recently upgraded. Here are just a few.
Rocket Park, Mt Albert
The park’s key attraction, the iconic rocket ship-shaped climbing tower, was closed in the 1990s for safety reasons but has recently been repainted, treated for rust and restored to its former glory. Kids can now climb up and through the rocket’s four levels, and discover the various other innovative equipment options in this popular play spot.
Roberta Reserve, Glendowie
A recent redesign and reconstruction has transformed Roberta Reserve playground into a series of exciting, safe play spaces for kids of all ages. For more adventurous youngsters, the park’s large colourful rope fort, eagle’s nest and swing basket are a real highlight.
Lake Town Green Playground, Hauraki
This recently opened neighbourhood park is designed especially for preschoolers. It features a fenced play area with a sandpit, basket swing, slide and spinner, and a kids’ trike track around the perimeter. The stand-out feature is a stone xylophone for interactive musical play.
