Devonport-Takapuna Local Board is prioritising walking, cycling and ecological restoration with its new greenways plan.
The plan helps create safe connections to encourage people to use alternative forms of transport, and follows natural landforms to link existing parks.
Devonport-Takapuna Local Board Chair Joseph Bergin says the plan is a step forward for alternative transport projects.
“Giving people more choice and safe options for walking and cycling will greatly benefit locals,” he says.
“We want people to make the most of our area’s great natural environment and the greenways plan does this, as well as encouraging people to walk and cycle more.”
Over time, the greenways plan will help the local board prioritise projects to better connect neighbouring communities with cycling and walking connections, as well as linking to neighbouring local board areas.
