With more than 40,000 hectares of parkland spread across Auckland, it’s no surprise there are some lesser-known places to visit and things to do in our regional parks.
“We’re used to hearing about the iconic vistas and tourist favourites that characterise our parks,” says Group Manager Regional Parks Mace Ward. “For those that want to dig a little deeper, there are plenty more beautiful, interesting and unique places to explore.”
Take your binoculars down to the shore of Ambury Regional Park and watch the birds of the Manukau Harbour from the bird hide. The pā above Whakanewha Regional Park on Waiheke Island is not only historic but offers stunning views of the island and Hauraki Gulf.
Mutukāroa Hamlin’s Hill Regional Park is a little-known oasis in industrial Auckland. Climb to the highest point for 360-degree views of the city. Duder Regional Park’s sustainable farming trail tells a story of today’s approach to farming our parks.
