Stoney Homestead is being transformed into a community hub for Millwater and Silverdale residents.
Hibiscus and Bays Local Board Chairperson Julia Parfitt says establishing a community hub will help families connect with each other more easily.
“This will be a place for people to meet and get to know each other, especially if they are new to the area or on their own during the day,” she says.
“The homestead will be available for community programmes, meetings, classes and events.”
The homestead’s exterior has already been restored, and work will soon start on the interior, car parking and landscaping.
Designs are underway for the internal refit, with tenders out this month. Internal work is expected to be finished next May and the Stoney Homestead Trust will be working to identify a programme of activities.
