Registrations for Te Wānanga o Aotearoa Kapa Haka Super 12s have opened.
Teams of 12 people perform for 12 minutes to impress a panel of judges and for the first time the event is open to adult and secondary schools teams.
The competition celebrates excellence and innovation in the traditional Māori performing art of kapa haka. It will dominate the stage at The Cloud, Queens Wharf on Saturday 9 July 2016 as part of Matariki Festival 2016.
Chair of Auckland Council’s Arts Committee Alf Filipaina says the event will be one of the highlights of the festival.
“It is a dynamic competition that showcases the traditional art of kapa haka and Māori culture in a fresh, modern and innovative way. I can’t wait to see what the teams bring to the table this year.”
Does your group have what it takes to take out the top spot?
Auckland Council is especially keen to attract teams from outside the Auckland region.
Registrations close on Friday 20 May. Find out more at matarikifestival.org.nz.
