Reducing the harm caused by alcohol is a priority for Puketāpapa Local Board.
Research indicates that 83 per cent of people living in the local board’s area feel that alcohol has a negative overall impact on life in Auckland. This is significantly higher than the regional average.
To help address this concern, the board funded a series of community information sessions to help locals engage with the alcohol licensing process.
They focused on informing residents about how to raise concerns over new or renewed alcohol licence applications in their community.
Sessions included an overview of current alcohol legislation, when and how to make an objection to an alcohol licence, and discussion about how community action on alcohol can reduce harm and increase safety.
