Take a detour out of busy Wynyard Quarter and you’ll find yourself in one of the most tranquil waterfront spots in the city.
The Westhaven Promenade, which opened in February last year, winds its way along the water’s edge from Westhaven Drive to the base of the Harbour Bridge in Herne Bay.
Plenty to see
Some days you’ll even spot brave souls heading out to climb the bridge or bungy jump from it.
The promenade’s wide timber paths are easy to walk, run or cycle along, and take you around the marina area.
Watch the yachts coming and going, and, if you’re lucky, you’ll see seabirds such as shags diving for their dinner.
More to come
The Westhaven Promenade will eventually form part of a 21km waterfront cycleway stretching from the Auckland Harbour Bridge in the west to St Heliers in the east.
