The new Spark ‘Boroughs’ west basketball court opened on Tuesday in Avondale Central Reserve in time for the community to enjoy it over summer.
Whau Local board members, with Spark and Auckland Council’s project delivery team, shared the honour of cutting opening ribbons on the brand new court. Local basketball players christened the court with a three-on-three game.
Spark has made free WiFi available at the court.
“The new basketball court here in the centre of Avondale will be fantastic for our local young people,” says Whau Local Board Chair Tracy Mulholland.
“Our board thanks Spark and the council’s project team for this outstanding new facility. I’m sure that the court will be extremely popular.”
Spark’s Head of Brand, Communications and Experience, Sarah Williams, said, “We’re thrilled to have the new court at Avondale open for local basketballers to use. The Boroughs is about what basketball can inspire within communities and the opportunities it can bring them.
“After all of the work that’s gone into the project, we’re looking forward to seeing people enjoy the space over summer and really begin to take ownership of it as their court.”
A free community event will take place on 28 January.
