Council working with NZTA on Rodney traffic hotspots

Last Updated : 31 Jan 2017

Summer is in full swing and the traffic choke points of Hill Street on State Highway 1 in Warkworth and State Highway 16 through Kumeū / Huapai are under enormous pressure.

Although these issues have not been permanently resolved, Auckland Council has been working with the New Zealand Transport Agency on short-term road improvements.

As a result, $43 million has been allocated to improving road safety and efficiency on SH16 from Brigham Creek to Waimauku with construction works to occur in 2018.

“The Waimauku roundabout improvements started in December, and Hill Street is finally having money spent on the design of a new intersection,” says Rodney Ward Councillor Greg Sayers.

“A permanent solution to these traffic issues requires government-led funding, but the funding is not yet approved."

“With the help of the local members of parliament, I am working hard to secure this funding, which will help to resolve traffic issues for the Rodney region,” says Councillor Sayers.
