Upcycling at the Tip Stop Shop

Next time you visit Great Barrier Island don't forget to grab a bargain at the Aotea Community Upcycle Centre in Claris, affectionately known by locals as the Tip Stop Shop.

The shop is a joint venture between Auckland Council and the AoteaOra Community Trust.

Jobs created

Shop manager Angela Wright says, “Already the project is having some very positive benefits including creating three part-time jobs on the island. The shop is becoming a great meeting place where ideas flow and all the goods donated get to be used and enjoyed again.”

Artworks, sculptures and crafts all made from recycled goods will be on display and for sale later this summer.

In its first three months, it stopped 2000kg of waste going to landfill.

Donated goods have been given a new lease of life, and three part-time jobs have been created.

The shop also sells artworks, sculptures and crafts made from recycled goods.

Address and opening hours

Address: 10 Gray Road, Claris.

Shop hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 8.30am to 4.30pm and Saturday from 9am to 3pm.
