This Thursday, Auckland Mayor Phil Goff will be sleeping rough with more than a hundred business and community leaders to fundraise to help end homelessness in Auckland.
Now in its seventh year, the Lifewise Big Sleepout raises funds to tackle the serious issue of homelessness in Auckland. This year, the focus is on youth homelessness.
Mayor Phil Goff says, “I participated in the Big Sleepout in 2016 and I’m proud to do so again this year. Homelessness is a problem that shouldn’t exist in Auckland, and thanks to Lifewise the money raised on Thursday will go a long way towards helping vulnerable young Aucklanders to turn their lives around.”
More than 41,000 people in New Zealand are homeless, with over half of that under the age of 25. In Auckland it has been estimated that over 20,000 Aucklanders could be without a home.
Donations can be made to Lifewise through the Mayor’s fundraising page.
