Auckland Council and ANZ Bank are teaming up to create two new splash pads for Auckland families to enjoy.
The splash pads will open in early December – one at the Stanmore Bay Pool and Leisure Centre, Whangaparāoa, and the other at the Lloyd Elsmore Park Pool and Leisure Centre in Pakuranga.
The Lloyd Elsmore Park splash pad launched construction with a sod turning in the wind and rain on Wednesday 9 August. The Stanmore Bay site was launched on Thursday 10 August.
Representatives from ANZ, local boards, construction partner HEB, the Auckland Council Parks, Sport and Recreation team, and young guests from each leisure centre’s Kauri Kids programme were in attendance to celebrate the start of these exciting new facilities.
What is a splash pad?
Splash pads provide a safe and engaging environment for children to play in water, with fountains, mist sprayers showers and nozzles that spray water over the playground area. There is little or no standing water.
Auckland Mayor Phil Goff said, “The splash pads will be a new and exciting feature for our communities in Stanmore Bay and Pakuranga. They are a real hit with our kids and will provide fun and enjoyment for them.”
“Bringing them to the community is possible because of our partnership with ANZ who have provided much of the money to bring this project to life.
The splash pads will be built within the current leisure and pool facilities at Stanmore Bay and Pakuranga. Both will feature extensive landscaping and outdoor picnic facilities, offering families and groups the opportunity to spend the day at the centre.
“As New Zealand and Auckland’s biggest bank with the greatest presence, we’re really pleased to be teaming with Auckland Council to jointly build facilities for younger Aucklanders to enjoy,” said ANZ Retail and Business Banking Managing Director Antonia Watson.
The splash pads will open to coincide with the start of summer in early December.
