Epsom Girls Grammar School, Ferndale Kindergarten and Mt Eden Kindergarten students celebrated their learning and understanding of the sustainable practices with local board members last week at the Enviroschools 2018 Celebration and Showcase.

Having successfully embarked on the sustainability journey, they are now Bronze Enviroschools. Under the national programme, children and young people plan, design and implement sustainability actions that are important to them and their communities.

“We are keen supporters of the Enviroschools programme and proud to have 16 schools involved in it. The students’ achievements are an inspiration, and give us hope for the future,” says local board chair Dr Peter Haynes.

Students from Franklin, Manurewa-Papakura, Māngere-Ōtāhuhu, Ōtara-Papatoetoe, Howick, Waitematā, Waiheke, Waitākere, Hibiscus and Bays, and Devonport-Takapuna local board areas also celebrated a significant milestone in their Enviroschools journeys this year.

“These students are all taking action and leading the charge to grow sustainable communities across Auckland,” says Marisa Pene, Enviroschools Regional Coordinator, Auckland Council.
