Locals and business owners are buzzing in Māngere Bridge with the recent installation of Pop Marbles in their village.
Pop Marbles is a giant, interactive marble run and is one of three pop-up art projects happening across the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board area, aimed at bringing a bit of creativity and surprise to the community.
Māngere Bridge Village manager Kate Adams says Pop Marbles has been good for the community, both as a way to keep children entertained, but also as a drawcard for businesses.
“It’s been really well accepted,” she says. “There seems to be constantly both kids and adults playing on it. Businesses have commented to me that it has brought a real a buzz to the village."
"I’ve had nothing but positive feedback."
Adams reiterates that initiatives like Pop are something people are keen to see repeated in Māngere Bridge.
“Hopefully it’s something we see more of. We get lots of foot traffic through the village and people have been commenting about it and sharing photos on Facebook.”
Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board Chair Lemauga Lydia Sosene says the local board is pleased to be able to bring projects like Pop to Māngere and Ōtāhuhu, as a way of activating public spaces and giving people fun things to engage with.
“We are proud to support initiatives like this as it helps bring people together and make our communities healthier as a result.”
