Redevelopment of the old Air Force Headquarters Building at Hobsonville Point is now complete, creating a number of attractive spaces for community use.
Upper Harbour Local Board Chair Lisa Whyte says the old concrete art deco heritage building has undergone a full internal make-over and external refresh.
“The aim was to retain and restore as much of the building’s original character as possible whilst delivering a modern and fit for purpose multi-use facility for the community,” says Whyte.
“The exterior facade has been carefully restored, original windows repaired, a new roofing membrane installed and a new deck added. The redevelopment also included seismic strengthening, as well as new heating and lighting systems throughout.”
Those interested in checking out the new facilities, can drop by and speak with Megan Smith who has been engaged to support activation of the new facility at Hobsonville Point.
“I am keen to hear from the community on what they would like to see happening at the Headquarters,” says Megan.
“Along with the Sunderland Lounge, which is currently being refurbished, the Headquarters building will provide the Hobsonville Point community with quality places to meet and participate in a variety of community programmes and activities,” she says.
