During May, pink ribbon breakfasts and morning teas were held around New Zealand to help raise awareness and funds for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.

Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Councillor Josephine Bartley got into the pink recently with a Pink Ribbon breakfast held at Marist Rugby Club Rooms in Mt Wellington.

“My heartfelt thanks go to everyone who has taken the time to host or attend a pink ribbon breakfast during May,” says Councillor Bartley.

“It is about empowering and supporting each other as women - so thank you for the love you all showed to each other. You are all phenomenal women. Naturally,” she said.

Co-hosted by the Pacifica Women’s Tamaki Branch and Marist Women’s Rugby, the breakfast included a special guest appearance from Dancing with the Stars Shavaughn Ruakere who took the time to drop in before heading off to filming.

Locals Ann Makea, Sonya Shone and Black Fern Karina Stowers shared their own personal stories while celebrity MC Jackie Clarke warmed up the breakfast crowd to raise over $2000 for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.
