The Rodney Local Board area will benefit from more than $22 million of funding for parks, sport and recreation, community services, community facilities, governance and environmental management in 2018/2019.
It comes following the agreement of Auckland Council’s 10-year Budget, which sets out a $1.8 billion investment programme across the Auckland region for 2018/2019, as well as funds for managing and operating services throughout the Rodney Local Board area.
Rodney Local Board Chair Beth Houlbrooke says, “We are putting resources into significant projects that will stand Rodney in good stead for years to come.
"It’s exciting that planning is starting on several large multi-year projects that Rodney residents have been waiting a long time for. These projects include an indoor court facility at Huapai, a multi-sports facility at Warkworth Showgrounds and a reserve at Green Road, Dairy Flat.
“Our focus will be on advancing better transport solutions for Rodney as we know this is the number-one issue for our residents. We will bring forward specific transport projects in Rodney by means of a targeted rate that will be monitored through regular accountability reporting.
“We are continuing to invest significantly in our town centres and will partner with our communities, starting with Warkworth and Helensville. Together we can lift the standard of our town centres and improve the way they look, feel and function.”
Along with funding to operate and maintain community facilities and assets such parks, rural halls and libraries, key local initiatives of the Rodney Local Board include:
- developing a master plan for Dairy Flat’s Green Road reserve
- contributing to the design of the Warkworth multi-sport building
- starting an open space management plan for Rodney reserves
- continuing the healthy harbours fund that protects Rodney’s waterways
- supporting conservation volunteers, community planting programmes, and plant and animal pest control.
Rodney Local Board is one of 10 local boards earmarked to receive funding for a local initiative from the 10-year Budget.
In Rodney, funding is approved in principle for an indoor court facility that will provide much-needed indoor space for Huapai and Kumeū residents. The next step is preparing a business case with funding earmarked for allocation following confirmation of scope, estimated costs, other potential funding sources and timing.
