Rodney Local Board has named nine roads that have sections which will be sealed using the Araparera Forestry Joint Venture fund of $2.8 million.
Local board chair Beth Houlbrooke says the local board carefully considered the list of unsealed roads that were eligible for funding and then ranked these according to multiple criteria that the local board developed.
“Our ranking criteria were pretty extensive. We examined each road based on traffic and heavy vehicle use, safety, the proximity of houses and nearby facilities, while ensuring a fair geographical spread.
“We considered how to stretch each dollar as far as possible keeping in mind an appropriate standard of seal that will stand up to use. This led to our decision to seal shorter sections of road which gave the best value for money.”
Local board member Colin Smith is pleased with the final list of roads.
“There is an even monetary spend across the roads and the dollar value checks out. Now it’s time to get on with delivery.”
