For the first time in 10 years, residents will be able to travel between Beach Haven and Glenfield on a single bus. It also continues on to Smales Farm, North Shore Hospital and Takapuna. The new 941 service will be introduced as part of the North Shore New Network on Sunday.
Currently, it usually takes two buses to get customers between Beach Haven and Glenfield via Birkenhead, but from the end of this month, it will be one direct bus via Kaipātiki Road.
Councillor Richard Hills says, “The 941 service is a win for locals in the Beach Haven and Glenfield area connecting both suburbs and providing much easier access to and from the busway, Albany, Takapuna and North Shore Hospital.
"We’re really pleased the New Network is delivering a connection that will be useful and efficient for the community.
“This is a service that I advocated for, it’s an essential link in the transport network and I’m certain it will be popular with the people who live along the route. The New Network is an incredibly significant overhaul of the bus network on the North Shore.
"It will provide more people with more options for public transport travel so they can leave the car at home and enjoy getting around our amazing city.”
Auckland Transport’s Group Manager Metro Service Delivery Stacey Van Der Putten says, “This is a great new service which will significantly reduce journey time and connect these neighbouring suburbs with a single service. Along with the improved frequency of buses in the New Network, there will be much-improved options for travel through Beach Haven and Glenfield.”
More highlights
Other highlights for the area will include improved late night buses and more consistent and frequent timetables, 7 days a week. There will also be better access to hospitals and other parts of the North Shore from the end of this month.
The new bus network for the North Shore is part of a wider transformation of Auckland’s bus network, created for greater connectivity, frequency and simplicity.
Throughout the North Shore, there are currently 78 routes running 2545 trips each weekday. Once the New Network launches there will be 55 routes running 3672 trips each weekday. This is an increase in capacity of more than 44 per cent.
Consultation regarding the North Shore New Network took place in 2015, and 2279 responses were received which contributed to the final network design.
