Housing New Zealand recently invited Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board to view a new development in Mt Wellington prior to families moving in throughout February.
Previously, the adjoining sections on Jolson Road contained only two single dwellings; this new development has created six three-bedroom homes in that space.
“We were all impressed with the size and quality of the new homes," says Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board Chair Chris Makoare.
"It was really good to see that they included a back yard and open-plan living layouts. We certainly support the provision of these Housing New Zealand homes to the neighborhood."
Catherine Gilhooly, Housing New Zealand Stakeholder Relationship Manager, invited the local board to view the new build.
HNZ proud of high-quality homes
“We are incredibly proud of the standard of these homes and felt it was important to let the local representatives see the quality of the homes we are providing as social housing in their area.
“We’ve heard anecdotally from tenants that their power bills have reduced significantly since moving into new-build Housing New Zealand homes. That and the health benefits that come with living in warmer, dryer homes is part of what we aim to achieve.”
