In the latest round of community grants, Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board awarded the Ellerslie Toy Library a grant towards some much-needed technology improvements.

The new technological additions include a new tablet which is used for checking toys in when they are returned, as well as a new Treasurer’s laptop.

“This investment will enable the Toy Library to go paperless – eliminating the need for paper receipts,” says Philippa, Secretary of the Toy Library Committee.

"These changes will help us reduce administration costs, as well as save staff and volunteer time and reduce our carbon footprint.

“The Toy Library relies heavily on funding from the community in order to cover our day to day costs and keep our membership fees to a minimum. Grants such as this make a big difference for us, so we were really pleased to receive this help.

"It means we can then spend more of our membership fees on new toys in order to keep our toy collection up to date and in good condition for our members.”

The Library believes in the benefits of free play time, for children’s development, saying: "Play is a child’s work and toys are the tools for play".

Joining a local toy library gives members access to hundreds of quality toys, puzzles, games and learning activities for children from infants to five-year-olds.

Ellerslie Toy Library is located at 7 Harrison Road, Mt Wellington. Visit Facebook.com/ellerslietoylibrary or ellerslie.mibase.co.nz for more information.

The next grant round for Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board is a local grant round which opens on 18 February 2019.
