Is your rental insulated?

The deadline for landlords to be compliant with the Residential Tenancies Act legislation is 1 July 2019.

If you’re a landlord, you’ll need to ensure you have installed ceiling and underfloor insulation to the required standard in your rental properties by 1 July 2019 or face a penalty.

Auckland Council is committed to supporting homeowners to make their homes healthy and energy efficient.

Here are some ways we can help you:

  1. Retrofit your home: If you are a ratepayer you can apply for up to $5000 (including GST) for insulation, clean heating and some other types of home improvements. The amount borrowed is paid back through your property rates, including interest charges
  2. Eco Design Advisor Service: This advice is free to all Auckland residents and ratepayers, whether you are a homeowner, landlord or tenant. You can request a free visit to get advice on ensuring your property is healthy and energy efficient
  3. Home Energy Audit Toolkit (HEAT) kit: These toolkits are an easy way to check if you are paying too much for power. Available from your local library, these practical toolkits enable you to measure temperature, humidity levels, draughts, appliance energy consumption and more.
