Long skinny houses only on new Franklin section
A Beachlands First View Avenue section could be sold, but the site might be 120 metres long and two metres wide.

Anyone wanting a section in Beachlands when Auckland Council’s development arm Panuku sells 15R First View Avenue better be an expert in long, skinny houses.

Franklin Local Board has approved the sale of the 120 metre long and two metre wide section.

Beachlands board member Malcolm Bell says the land was identified as potentially surplus when a neighbouring property owner asked about it.

Almost 100 years ago the land came into Crown ownership, later passing to the Manukau City Council, which revoked its reserve status in 1977 but never sold it.

The land is zoned public open space informal recreation and has a desktop valuation of $10,000.

Panuku must now go to council’s Finance and Performance Committee to approve a sale and will seek to rezone to residential – single house.

The owners of the two homes next to the site will need to be on good terms because both have expressed interest in buying, and both properties encroach on the land.
