Kaipātiki Local Board has just approved a new recreational wharf design, enabling it to proceed to consenting and construction later in the year.
The wharf project will rebuild damaged parts of the wharf, including its piles, while retaining its heritage style and charm.
The project will also including building a new floating pontoon platform connected by a gangway to enable safer fishing and diving at its end.
The wharf will gain improved timber piles sleeved in HDPE (high-density polyethylene) to reduce future worm attack and rot - making them last longer.
New safer hand rails and visitor seating will also be installed as part of the works.
The local board would like to thank the Beach Haven Placemaking Group and Larking Boat Steering Group members for their input into the new design.
Physical works are expected to begin in December and be completed by the end of March 2020.
