Howick Local Board has classified Bucklands Beach Domain and Morrow Avenue Reserve as recreation reserves.
Both are Department of Conservation land managed by Auckland Council, and they must be classified under the Reserves Act.
It’s good news for Bucklands Beach Sea Scouts, which needs the correct classification in place before it can have its lease renewed.
The move also means both can be vested in trust to the council, a move that allows the council to manage the reserves in line with its own policies and processes.
Howick Local Board has been told council officers support recreational reserve status because it reflects what the areas are now used for and will allow the land to be used to its full potential while protecting its ecological value.
Bucklands Beach Domain is four land parcels, three in Morrow Avenue subject to the Reserves Act, and Lot 51 in Clovelly Road, owned by the council since 1964, but not for reserve purposes. The change aligns it with the Reserves Act.
Morrow Avenue Reserve is one parcel occupied by the Bucklands Beach Bowling Club.
