For the third successive year, Auckland Council’s Pest Free Auckland 2050 will host Pestival on Saturday 14 September at the Aotea Centre.
The day-long educational and networking event is open to community groups and organizations involved in Auckland’s efforts to be pest-free by 2050.

Mayor Phil Goff who will open the event and says, “Auckland is home to beautiful coastlines and beaches, rich ecosystems and precious forests and birdlife.
“But there are challenges we must tackle in relation to our waterways and wildlife.”
“In addition to the harmful impact of pests and weeds, other factors such as climate change, pollution and population growth are all affecting our environment.
"It’s critical we continue to work together to keep our environment thriving so it can be enjoyed for generations to come.”
Self-professed conservationist Jesse Mulligan returns to lead the day focused on supporting community-powered conservation towards a Pest Free Auckland.
He’ll introduce guest speakers, lead workshops and moderate the Pestival’s 'Great Conservation Debate'. Nicola Toki, Geoff Simmons, Graeme Hill and Councillor Penny Hulse will discuss the moot, 'insects are better than birds'.
Auckland Council’s Brett Butland says, “The Auckland Pestival will showcase community-led conservation activity in Auckland.
"It’s an ideal opportunity for community groups and volunteers to come together to network, hear about new innovations and best practice methods, listen to presentations from environmental experts and community conservation groups and share ideas and inspiration with like-minded people.”
