Each year Neighbours Day presents a wonderful opportunity for people to come together and forge friendships. A well-connected neighbourhood has a positive impact on people – it can reduce isolation and create safer communities.
This year, people can celebrate their neighbours between March 27- April 5, 2020 with a funding grant from the Albert-Eden and Puketāpapa local boards.
“Getting together with your neighbours, getting to know them better has so many advantages” says Harry Doig, Puketāpapa Local Board Chair. “Don’t wait for someone else to do it. Start organising now.”
Local boards work with Neighbourhood Support to engage with locals and other community groups to improve neighbourhood connectivity and to enhance placemaking, emergency preparedness and community resilience.
In 2019, a total of 26 groups held events or street parties across Albert-Eden-Puketāpapa.
Applications for Neighbours Day Aotearoa 2020 are set to open on 2 December 2019 and close on 2 February 2020. People can apply for a grant online.
