A project to improve the car park at one of Auckland's most iconic beaches will take place before Christmas.
Work will begin to upgrade the Te Henga Park - Bethells Beach carpark on Monday 18 November, as well as work improving the drainage system.
The improvements will include repairing potholes, ripping the existing surface up to 100mm, reinstating car park boundaries and compacting a new surface.
“The current carpark is in a poor condition with a number of potholes that require urgent attention”, says Greg Presland, Chair of Waitākere Ranges Local Board.
“We are pleased that this work will take place before the busy summer period. Auckland Council staff have been working with the local community to agree the best time for work to take place, which will minimise disruption and provide continued access to the café and surf club.”
Completing the work in summer weather conditions will provide a better product, cost less and mean there is less chance of being affected by wet soil.
The overflow park will be opened to the visitors during the construction phase to accommodate extra cars.
The first stage will be completed by Friday 22 November, with the majority of the project completed before Christmas.
