A true picture of south Auckland will be on display when diverse communities come together to celebrate at Diversity Festival.
Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board’s flagship event is returning for the third year on Saturday 22 February at Hayman Park.
A variety of performances representing different cultures and the area’s vibrant spirit has been lined up to entertain the crowds throughout the day, as well as market stalls showcasing the rich and diverse cultures of south Auckland and heaps of food options to choose from.
Local board chair Lotu Fuli says that the response to the festival has been encouraging over the last two years.
“It’s great to see people from different parts of Auckland coming in to experience our magnificent cultures. The event provides great exposure to our local talent, businesses and community groups that will help them grow," she says.
Rana Judge of the World Council of Sikh Affairs who has been organising the event from last two years says their team is working in full swing to deliver another entertaining event that reflects the true spirit of South Auckland.
“We are proud to be part of one of the most diverse areas in Auckland. Over the last two years, the team has tried their best to deliver an event that represents our community through various cultural stalls, performances and cuisines while also raising money for their social groups and spreading awareness.
“We have been receiving a diverse range of applications. We are hoping to deliver a fun-filled and much more entraining family event this year as well, one that truly reflects the spirit of south Auckland.”

Applications are open for performances in different categories including dance, culture, diversity fashion show and more.
Community groups, commercial organisations and food-sellers are also invited to register to book a stall at the event that’s growing in popularity with every passing year.
Registrations close on 3 February 2020.
Highlights of the event include:
- Bouncy castle, popcorn, face painting, kid activities area for kids
- Cultural performances representing different ethnicities and countries
- Kids and children performance, dance competition, diversity fashion show, talent show
- Games and activities for families
- Food stalls showcasing a variety of cuisine.
