This is the final week for Aucklanders to give Auckland Council their feedback on the Emergency Budget with consultation closing on Friday.
The Emergency Budget focusses on how the council will work to recover from the financial impacts of COVID-19 and the potential impacts on the services and facilities offered by the council.
North Shore Ward Councillor Chris Darby encourages everyone who has not already done so, to read through the consultation information and give their feedback.
“Businesses throughout Auckland are feeling the economic impact of COVID-19 and the council is no exception” says Councillor Darby, who also chairs the council’s Planning Committee.
“The projected $525 million drop in council income has serious implications for us all. Our challenge here at the council is how we can respond to this reduction in revenue while still offering the services Aucklanders need and value the most like the five libraries that we have here on the North Shore, our well-used community venues and our three service centres. We must also continue the capital investment vital to Tāmaki Makaurau and we need to stimulate local and regional economic recovery.
“The Emergency Budget consultation document gives you detail on the advantages and disadvantages of either a 2.5 per cent or 3.5 per cent rates rise and gives information about what each option would mean for you, your community and for the wider Auckland region.
“We’ve had more than 17,000 submissions so far, it’s really important that we hear from North Shore residents and ratepayers so we can better understand the direction you want us to take.”
The Emergency Budget consultation is open until 19 June 2020.
