Albert-Eden local board is encouraging people to become more familiar with its local plan for the next three years.
This way people can form an informed opinion on the priorities which build on the work the board has done over the last 10 years.
“In this rapidly changing city, we are responding to the changes that are coming, but at the same time ensuring that our work on protecting the environment and building resilient neighbourhoods continues to meet the needs of locals,” says local board chair Margi Watson.
“We also know that COVID-19 has changed the way we work, and council budgets are constrained, but we aim to get the best outcomes we can that will deliver long term benefit for our community.”
The draft Local Board Plan for 2020-2023 focuses on six key outcomes.
Resilient, connected, and empowered communities who value diversity
Our community is changing and becoming increasingly diverse. We want to support everyone to participate in democratic processes, feel included and be active in their neighbourhoods, so that a range of voices are heard and help shape the future of local communities.
Character neighbourhoods we call home that reflect our heritage and unique identity
Our neighbourhoods are changing. Understanding our past and having a strong sense of identity will be important as we move into the future. We need to embrace the opportunities change can bring to our vibrant communities.
A strong local economy with thriving town centres
Our small local businesses and town centres are important economic and community hubs, and their success is vital. We know COVID-19 has brought financial challenges and want to work alongside local businesses on their road to recovery.
Parks and community spaces meet a wide range of needs
We understand our communities utilise our parks and community spaces for many different purposes. We plan to maximise the potential of our facilities and open spaces by ensuring they can be used for a range of activities and suit various needs.
High quality natural environments and sustainable lifestyles
Our natural environment is changing. We will support volunteers in their environmental work, and help households, neighbours, businesses and communities to adopt climate-friendly practices.
Safe, easy and sustainable options for moving around
We will fund projects which focus on projects that promote active transport modes that are friendly to the environment, increasing safety and making places pedestrian-friendly. We will advocate for a convenient and affordable public transport system which caters to our different needs.
