When did you last look inside your rain tank?

When did you last look inside your rain tank

If you rely on rain to keep your household taps flowing or toilet flushing, it’s time to check your tank and think about your water use this summer.

With lower than normal rainfall predicted until autumn 2021, our region is likely to have continued water restrictions in place for some time yet and that means we all need to think carefully about our water use.

Last summer there was an unprecedented demand for rain tank top ups from rural communities, and those households not connected to the municipal water supply.

High demand means longer wait times and increased risk of tanks running dry. So, if you’re on tank water remember:

  • check your water levels regularly
  • monitor usage
  • clear your gutters
  • know who your local water delivery supplier is and
  • book a refill early.

We’re also encouraging tank users to increase their water storage by installing an additional rainwater tank.  To support you, the council has waived resource consent fees for rainwater tank applications and created a tool to help you find out what is required.
