Almost $30,000 in funding has been awarded to six Waitākere-based organisations and businesses as part of Auckland Council’s Waste Minimisation Innovation Fund (WMIF).
The projects include $500 funding for Massey High School to introduce composting collection points, $13,695 for Giacon Terrazzo Limited to help recycle and reuse the scrap marbles and $5000 for Rudolf Steiner School Titirangi Trust for its Composting hub for regenerative localized development project.
Waitākere Ward Councillor Shane Henderson says that environmental focus has always been a strength of West Auckland.
“From the days of the Waitākere eco-city through to today, it’s clear there are lots of passionate people and organisations out west that care about our environment and want to go that extra mile to help improve it,” he says.
“There’s a range of different organisations here doing some really great work and I am delighted that we have been able to support them through this fund.
“The climate emergency that we face requires action, and in many ways, it will be the actions of individuals that make the difference. Reducing our waste will have a big part to play in that ongoing fight.
“So that’s why this funding is so fantastic, and it is great to see projects out West successful in their applications and making a difference to their communities. Congratulations to all the recipients.”
